RoamRecipe didn't start as a business. It started as a phone call.
A friend's flight to Boston got cancelled — connections unravelling, a trip that was supposed to be simple suddenly wasn't. What followed was two hours of rebuilding the whole itinerary from scratch: which airport to route through, where to actually stay given the new dates, what was worth salvaging and what wasn't.
That kind of call happened more than once. Friends planning a honeymoon in Rome. A family trying to figure out Provence with two kids and a rental car. People who had already read the blogs, already made the spreadsheet, and still felt stuck — not from lack of information, but from too much of it, with no way to know which parts actually mattered.
They'd come back from those trips and say some version of the same thing: it was the best one they'd taken. Not because the plan was fancier. Because someone who'd actually been there had already made the hard decisions for them.
That's the whole idea behind RoamRecipe. It just took a while to admit it was a business and not a favor.
RoamRecipe is built on direct experience, not aggregated research.
Based in Switzerland, with family roots in both Sicily and Vietri sul Mare on the Amalfi Coast — the Amalfi side alone accounts for fifteen-plus summers, not a research trip. Italy explored extensively beyond that, region by region, the way you get to know a country when you're not on a two-week deadline. Spain, France, the Netherlands, Greece, Germany, and the United States coast to coast — Hawaii included — have all been covered on the ground, not from a desk. More destinations are added every year, and only ever after they've actually been visited.
This matters more than it sounds like it should. Anyone can list the top ten sights in a city. Far fewer people can tell you which entrance has no line, which neighbourhood restaurant is worth the walk, or which "must-see" is genuinely skippable if your time is short.
Most people planning a trip don't need more information. They need someone who's already been there to make the decision simpler.
That's not a guess — it's a pattern that shows up constantly in conversations with travelers before they become clients. "I need help." "My head is spinning." "I don't even know where to start." Not from laziness — from genuine overload. Too many options, too many blog posts contradicting each other, no reliable way to tell a good recommendation from a recycled one.
RoamRecipe exists to remove that overload. Not by generating more content, but by making fewer, better decisions on someone else's behalf.
